PSNI ignoring intimidation in Limavady

Catholic residents from the Edenmore Drive area of Limavady have sent an open letter to the PSNI chief Hugh Orde requesting a meeting. They say the PSNI is ignoring loyalist intimidation in the area.

The residents say the PSNI are denying that intimidation is taking place even though the PSNI have escorted some families out of their homes after threats were made.

The mother of a woman targeted in a sectarian campaign of intimidation in Limavady has described the feeling of being "absolutely terrified" as she helped her daughter move her belongings from her home in Edenmore Park.

The woman told how earlier this year her daughter's fence was completely destroyed by loyalists and about three weeks ago a group of loyalists banged at her back door at 2am and shouted 'fenian bitch' at her.

"She was that scared she could not move from her bed and the men shouted that if she didn't get out they would burn her out," said the victim's mother.

The woman told how the PSNI told the Housing Executive that although the woman and her daughter had been interviewed by CID, there was no report as such.

"We went back to the house that evening and a gang started to throw stones at the windows," she said. "I was terrified and we phoned the PSNI. The PSNI members who arrived knew nothing about the situation and I had to start explaining all over again.

"I have never witnessed anything so frightening in all my life and hope I never do again.
