Sinn Féin exposes government lurch to the right
Sinn Féin TDs will today launch a document entitled NO RIGHT TURN to highlight the Fianna Fáil/PD government's continuing and expanding adoption of right wing policies.
The aim of the document is to show that across the board, Ministers from both Fianna Fáil and the PDs, covering a wide range of portfolios, have since their re-election adopted policies that are bereft of any social responsibility and instead promote a culture of the survival of the fittest.
Sinn Féin Leader in the Dáil Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin said: "During the summer months, while the Dáil was in recess, a number of Ministers have continued to initiate and implement in a drip feed manner policies, with little or no public debate, that will have a profound and indeed detrimental affect on the quality of lives for many, many people throughout this state. These policies are ideologically driven from the right wing of this government and are fundamentally attacks on the most vulnerable in Irish society as well as attacks on the rights and equality agenda.
"We believe that our document exposes the reality that across a range of departments, from Health, Environment, Transport, to Education and Justice, that this government is bent on a policy of Thatcherisation in Ireland."
