Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP has said that unionist opposition to a Bill of Rights is 'a symptom of a political leadership which is out of touch with many within their own community'. Sinn Féin comments on publication of draft Parades legislation

Bolivia hosts World People's Conference

More than 18,000 environmental activists, indigenous representatives and climate scientists have joined Latin American presidents for a major climate conference hosted by Bolivian President Evo Morales in Cochabamba from April 19-22. Morales called for the alternative summit - the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the rights of Mother Earth - in the aftermath of the failed Cop15 summit in Copenhagen in December. Delegations from 90 governments will also participate in the summit, which aims to give voice to the world's poor on the issue of climate change, and to influence the next United Nations climate summit, Cop16, which will be held in Mexico at the end of this year. Campaign to save Wexford General A&E services

More Catalan communities to vote on independence

About 200 municipalities in Catalonia will participate on 25 April in an unofficial poll asking their citizens whether they are in favour of Catalan independence from the Spanish state. The most important cities participating in this wave of referenda are Girona, Lleida and Reus. This is the second wave of such public votes since last September, when a small town near Barcelona, Arenys de Munt, called the first one. Free article
