Fógraí bháis: Michael Rodgers

Recently departed Michael Rodgers was a well respected figure in the Ardee area of Co Louth and a good friend of fellow veteran Joe Cahill.

Originating in Longford, Rodgers built up a very successful business in Ardee and remained a strong, active and unashamed supporter of the Republican Movement.

Always willing to accommodate republicans passing through the town, he was a voiciferous and outspoken republican. One of his well known contributions was the maintainance of a monument to IRA Volunteers Tierney and O'Carroll, who were killed by British forces on 30 October 1920. The memorial had been originally situated on the grounds where the new church now sits and when the church was being built, Michael ensured it was re-erected in a prominent place.

Michael will be sadly missed in the area by local republicans and a big loss to the Republican Movement, who have extended their deepest and sincere sympathies to his wife and family.
