Liam Scully Anniversary

This May is the 90th anniversary of the death of Liam Scully. Captain Liam Scully was an IRA volunteer who was shot dead during a raid on the old RIC barracks in Kilmallock, during the War of Independence.
Captain Scully died on the night of May 28th. He was an Irish teacher from Glencar in County Kerry. His remains could not be taken back home due to the war-time situation, so Captain Scully was waked locally and was buried that night in the old graveyard at Templeglantine West. His burial was assisted by local volunteers, Donncha O’Hannagain and Patrick Clancy.
There will be a commemoration ceremony for Liam Scully on Friday 28th May at 8.00pm in the Old Cemetery, Church Road Templeglantine. Deputy Martin Ferris will be the main speaker.
