Delay in report 'unacceptable'

Sinn Féin Housing Spokesperson in the Six Counties, West Belfast MLA Fra McCann, has said that the two-year delay in the publication of a report on homelessness is totally unacceptable, and called for the immediate publication of the report, entitled Promoting the Social Inclusion of Homeless People: Addressing the Causes and Effects of Homelessness in Northern Ireland.

Drugs crisis highlighted

Speaking in the Dáil on Tuesday, Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD called on the Government to properly resource the national and local drugs units and community policing in order to enable the Gardaí to more effectively tackle the illegal drugs supply, in partnership with communities. Ó Snodaigh said that more needed to be done to tackle the myth that certain drugs are 'recreational' and therefore 'safe'.

Proposals for super dump slammed

Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment Spokesperson and Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has called on An Bord Pleanála to reject Fingal County Council's request for planning permission for a proposed landfill 'super dump' at Lusk, County Dublin.

Doolan said that the super dump proposal flies against any rational thinking. "This is clearly a trade-off: Poolbeg Peninsula must take an incinerator while the people of Lusk must take a super dump in return," he said.
