Flight of the Executives

So the top three executives in Aer Lingus are to resign because of their "unease" at the pace and direction of government plans for the airline. Is this a crisis? No. The new chief executive of the Health Service Executive is now not to take up his post. Is this a crisis? Again no.

What is a crisis is how directionless this government has become when it comes to co-ordinating and managing the development of and investment in national resources.

This week, if we look across the health services, An Post, Aer Rianta and Aer Lingus, we can see massive problems. You can add in the future development of the ESB, the debacle over broadband rollout at Eircom, the failure to provide teachers for schools, or even something as simple as a linked up LUAS, all failures.

We are squandering our economic resources because of ideological dithering on behalf of the government. We need a plan for managing these vital resources. This involves real worker consultation and voter support. If this simple task is beyond the coalition, then maybe it's time for them to take flight too.
