SARS needs all-Ireland response

The public needs to be assured that there is a coherent, co-ordinated and effective approach from all relevant authorities to the threat posed by SARS. That is not the case at present.

In the 26 Counties, there has been drift, uncertainty and lack of leadership from the state on this vital public health issue.

There must be a coordinated Irish response, in conjunction with the health authorities in the Six Counties, so that as an island we can have the most effective defences against the spread of the disease.

The situation was allowed to drift into the current dispute with doctors. It must not be allowed to drift into the spread of SARS in Ireland.
