Government to ignore Lockout anniversary

Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe has expressed his disappointment at the statement by the Taoiseach that there are no plans to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the 1913 Lockout.

"The 1913 Lockout was arguably the most important historical event in the development of Irish Trade Unionism and a key event in the history of this city," said Crowe. "I welcome the fact that there is a great deal of activity taking place around the 200th anniversary of the Rising of 1803, but I am disappointed the government could not find the resources, or perhaps more accurately the interest, to commemorate the struggle of Irish workers against oppression and discrimination."
