Newry offers respite

Newry Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Curran is pictured with a group of teenagers from interface areas of North and East Belfast who were treated to a day out in the Newry area just before Christmas.

The teenagers, mostly from North Belfast and the Short Strand areas, visited the newly opened Exchange Nite Club in Newry, one of the most modern clubs in Europe.

Brendan Curran explained that over the years republicans from the Newry area had organised trips for children from Belfast "to get them away from the tension they had to live with on a daily basis.

"In the past we brought a group from the Garvaghy Road down to Camloch Lake and the time they spent here lifted their spirits," said Curran. He added that the owners of the Exchange were only too willing to host the youngsters as part of their efforts to reach out to the community.
