Waterford Sinn Féin expanding at phenomenal rate

Sinn Féin in Waterford is growing at a phenomenal rate, according to local representative David Cullinane. On Tuesday 16 July a new cumann was formed in Waterford City, while in recent weeks two new cumainn were formed in Portlaw and Stradbally.

The recently formed city cumann is named after Kevin Lynch, the hunger striker who died in Long Kesh in 1981. Cullinane said this was a fitting tribute to a man who had stood in the Waterford constituency in the 1981 General Election while on hunger strike.

"The incredible growth of Sinn Féin in Waterford follows on from the excellent vote achieved at the recent General Election in which Sinn Féin was returned as the fourth largest party in the Waterford Constituency," said Cullinane.

"On Sunday 21 July, the first ever Comhairle Ceantair (Constituency Executive) was formed. Ógra Shinn Féin is active in the city while a women's forum was set up in June at a constituency level. All of this shows the huge and growing support that exisits for Sinn Féin."
