Adams to raise Kerry farmers' concerns

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams and Kerry North candidate Martin Ferris are pictured meeting with farmers at the Tralee Beef and Lamb plant on Saturday last.

The closure of the factory last October has had widespread repercussions in the farming community and beyond, particularly with the loss of 80 jobs in an area with a disproportionately high rate of unemployment. Martin Ferris has repeatedly called on Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh to show generosity by releasing the £1 million fine levied aganst the IFA during the beef dispute two years ago to assist farmers and suppliers affected by the Tralee plant's closure. Adams has now written to the minister highlighting the farmers' concerns.
