McCreesh book launched

Ending the 20th anniversary commemorations for IRA hunger striker Raymond McCreesh, last Thursday, 24 May, the Camloch 1981 Committee launched a memorial book.

The book was co-ordinated by Tommy Lynch, a leading activist during the hunger strikes and local historian Pat McGinn. The first copy was presented to Susan McCreesh, Raymond's mother. It details the harrowing events of the time and personal memories from individuals about Ray McCreesh, a Camloch-born man whose family is regarded highly in the area.

The publication has been praised by both Brendan `Bik' McFarlane, OC of the H-Blocks during the hunger strike and veteran republican, Joe Cahill. Both have said that the book captures the anger and sadness that followed McCreesh's death.

The launch was part of a series of events held to commemorate the hunger strikes in the area. Michael McCreesh, on behalf of himself and his family, thanked the local committee for organising what he termed a ``fitting'' tribute to his brother. The memorial book is priced at £5 and those wishing to buy it are advised to do so quickly due to the limited number of copies.
