SDLP 'sour grapes' over Sinn Féin success
SDLP LEADER Margaret Ritchie has been accused of sour grapes after saying Sinn Féin “could have done better” than getting 14 TDs elected, up from five.
Ritchie is still smarting that her party has been overtaken by Sinn Féin in the Six Counties and is becoming ineffectual and irrelevant.
Northlands Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry Mac Lochlainn said:
I think it is rich for the SDLP, a so-called nationalist party to be belittling Sinn Féin's amazing success by saying we could have 'done a whole lot better’.
Why didn't the SDLP put their money where their mouth is and contest the election?
The Sinn Féin councillor said that the SDLP leader had shown her true colours in advance of the election when she said that the SDLP did not want to “interfere” in the election.
What kind of a partitionist statement is that from someone who claims to be a nationalist?
He added:
Despite the SDLP's sour grapes, Sinn Féin had an excellent election and has built a solid base to grow in future elections.
We will be the credible opposition in the incoming Dáil and will provide the alternative voice of the many thousands of Irish people who are struggling to make ends meet.
The SDLP leader is firing out these ridiculous statements in an attempt to claw back some relevance and credibility in advance of the May 5th elections in the North.
