Tar Isteach take to the hills
Dublin Tar Isteach held another successful hill walk last Sunday, this time following the historical footsteps of a small retreating band of Gaelic rebels as they headed towards Glenmalure.
The group, set up by republican ex-POWs, organised the event under the experienced guidance of former republican prisoner Gay Clery. The hikers listened to an account of an historical battle which took place between the British Lord Deputy, Arthur Grey de Wilton and his army and Gaelic rebels led by Feargh MacHugh O'Byrne.
Along the way, the walkers dined out on the lofty top of Table Mountain (over 2,000 feet), after a lung-heaving haul up the mountain's slope. They then descended the long and spectacular Glenmalure valley, ending at Baravore Ford, almost exactly where it ended for Grey, as his troops retreated back from Feargh's well prepared ambush.
