Ludlow movement soon?
The Dublin Department of Justice has amnnounced that the Minister for Justice, John O'Donoghue, ``hopes to put proposals to ...the Irish government as soon as possible'' to end the impasse over an inquiry into the killing of Séamus Ludlow.
The Celtic League had added its voice to calls for an independent enquiry into the assassination of the County Louth forestry worker in 1976.
Ludlow was killed in an apparently sectarian attack by a loyalist paramilitary gang. Controversy has surrounded the brutal killing for many years and there is believed to have been knowledge of or complicity in the killing by the British Security Services.
Following requests from the Ludlow family, the Celtic League wrote to the Irish Premier, Bertie Ahern, backing calls for a public inquiry in line with their wishes. Parallel correspondence to the Northern Secretary querying the extent of British Security Services collusion prompted an ambivalent response via the RUC.
The League has expressed its hope that the Dublin government will move soon to resolve the inertia around the case.
