Monaghan prisoners' vigil

Monaghan republicans turned out for their annual prisoners' vigil on Christmas Eve. Some 50 members of Sinn Féin participated in the traditional show of solidarity, taking up positions on both sides of the busy Diamond area of the town.

Among the group was Sinn Féin TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin and several members of local authorities in the county.

The key demand of the protestors was the immediate release of all republican prisoners. Ó Caoláin stated that even if only one were held in captivity, the vigil and all other forms of protest would be maintained.

``The release of all republican prisoners who unquestionably qualify under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement and without exception, is an immediate requirement,' the Sinn Féin TD said.
