Adams urges fightback against corruption

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams officially opens the Sinn Féin Sligo/Leitrim Constituency Office and Advice Centre in Sligo last weekend at the conclusion of an extremely successful two-day trip to the constituency. Adams said that ``while people are extremely concerned over growing crises in matters such as housing, health, education, farming incomes and inflation, possibly the biggest issue for most at this time is the question of sleaze and corruption and whether people can actually trust many of their elected representatives any more''.

The two-day visit included a packed public meeting entitled Share the Wealth in Manorhamilton and meetings with students and staff at Colaiste Iascaigh in West Sligo and with delegations of Sligo Council of Trade Unions and Sligo Chamber of Commerce. Adams also had discussions with members of Sligo Corporation, Sligo County Council and Sligo Junior Council before officiating at the opening of the Sinn Féin office in Sligo. The opening was attended by many representatives of community and voluntary groups from the region, in the presence of the Mayor of Sligo, Alderman Seán MacManus (pictured right) and the Chairperson of Leitrim County Council, Michael Colreavy.
