Cowen stays but he and his Government should go, says Gerry Adams
COMMENTING on Brian Cowen’s decision to continue as Fianna Fáil leader and as Taoiseach, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams called for an early general election.
He said that the question of who leads Fianna Fáil is a matter for Fianna Fáil but the question of who governs the state should be for citizens to decide.
The obvious divisions within this government, the failure of leadership by the Taoiseach and his Cabinet, and the bad decisions and policies being pushed through in the Finance Bill have stripped this government of any authority.
This government should go.
The longer this government stays in power the greater the damage that is being done to the economy and to our international reputation.
Sinn Fein Dáil leader Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin added:
The public’s priority is to get rid of this Fianna Fáil/Green Party Government, regardless of who is the leader of Fianna Fáil.
Gerry Adams was speaking at a packed selection convention in Letterkenny where Councillor Pádraig Mac Lochlainn was this afternoon chosen to be Sinn Féin’s general election candidate for Donegal North-East.
