Anti-drugs activists disrupt council meetings

Anti-drugs campaigners took their frustrations over the inactivity of politicians on the drugs issue and garda harassment of anti-drugs activists to the chambers of Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council this week.

Members of COCAD (Coaltition of Communities Against Drugs) briefly disrupted meetings of the two bodies to read out a statement of protest.

Sinn Féin Councillor Seán Crowe said afterwards that the campaigners had a legitimate grievance as councils and the government were not doing enough to protect communities from drugs in their midst. He particularly highlighted the failure of local authorities in Dublin to move to evict convicted drug dealers from local authority estates.
