Tom Williams - Still hope for republican burial

Appeals continue for the remains of executed IRA Volunteer Tom Williams to be buried at the republican plot in West Belfast's Milltown cemetery. A cousin of Tom Williams has asked his closest living relatives in Canada to reconsider their decision to have him buried at his mother's plot also in Milltown.

At the Williams family grave, the headstone erected by Tom's father bears the details of Tom's execution and acknowledges his son as an IRA Volunteer. But before his death, Tom Williams expressed the wish that he would be buried with his comrades.

Annie Caldwell from Andersonstown described her cousin as ``a very committed republican''. Annie's father, Francis Fay, is buried at the Williams family plot. ``There is a very large connection on the Fay side of the family who would want Tom's final wish to be granted,'' says Annie. ``Even at this late stage we still hope the family will take this into consideration.''
