Flooding: McGuinness wants Executive to look at emergency aid

Martin McGuinness

MARTIN McGUINNESS has told flood-hit families he wants the Executive to look at how the the Financial Assistance Act could be used to help people most affected by the extreme weather conditions.

The deputy First Minister was speaking alongside Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy today while visiting homes affected by flooding in the Shankill estate in Lurgan.

Martin McGuinness also thanked public service staff for all their hard work in trying to help families in testing conditions.

The deputy First Minister said he will be asking Executive departments for their ideas and plans on how to deal with crises like this. He added:

We will be also examining the Financial Assistance Act, which we have previously utilised, to see how we can address the financial hardship of those who are most in need over this period.
