‘No Water Charges’ website launched by Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh
AGAINST a backdrop of increasingly conflicting messages from the Government around when they plan to introduce water charges and what form these extra burdens on families will take, Sinn Féin’s Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, spokesperson for the No Water Charges campaign said:
“We recognise that clean water is a precious resource that costs money to produce. But water charges are not about conservation or about the cost of production.”
The Dublin TD said that the Government’s own figures clearly indicate that the public distribution network is the principle source of waste rather than the householder and investment in active leak management at that infrastructural level would more than pay for itself. ”The sole purpose of water charges is to make up the revenue shortfall arising from the bank bail-out.
“All the main political parties, bar Sinn Féin, are now officially committed to introducing water charges.
“It is imperative that the public say NO before the Budget and before €500million is wasted on household meters. It is against this backdrop that the campaign against water charges is launching its website www.nowatercharges.ie.”
