IRA memorial defaced

The increase in RUC and British Army patrols in the Coalisland/Clonoe area has been highlighted by Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Doris.

Doris said, ``in the last week patrols of at least thirty British Army and RUC personnel have been patrolling the Clonoe area and indiscriminately stopping and searching people.''

This, claims Doris, has been connected by local people to a number of sinister incidents in the area.

At the end of last week, a memorial in memory of local men shot and killed by the crown forces in the Clonoe Chapel area was defaced. Doris said, ``a number of memorials have been damaged before by the so-called forces of law and order.''

Doris also highlighted the fact that crown forces were being pulled out of other areas and put in the local area. He said, ``we are saying we don't want them here, these people should be taken off the streets altogether.''
