Drumnakilly ambush remembered

A graveside ceremony in Loughmacrory, Co Tyrone this coming Sunday 30 August will mark the tenth anniversary of the deaths of local IRA members Gerard Harte, Martin Harte and Brian Mullin.

The commemoration will be addressed by Sinn Fein Vice President Pat Doherty. It will get underway at twelve midday.

Mid Tyrone Sinn Fein Councillor Mickey McAnespie called on local people to attend the event, pointing out that it is Republican practice in Tyrone to specifically commemorate volunteers on the occasion of their tenth and twenty-fifth anniversaries.

``The SAS ambush at Drumnakilly occurred a decade ago this weekend. It is appropriate that we should remember Gerard, Martin and Brian who were respected, dedicated patriots, much loved in these parts,'' said Councillor McAnespie.

Anniversary masses for Brian Mullin (Sunday 10am, Dunmoyle) and for the Harte brothers (Monday, 8pm, Loughmacrory) also take place this weekend.
