McNamee appeal date

Members of the Danny McNamee Support Group have welcomed the news that an appeal date has been set for 9 November. McNamee was sentenced to 25 years in 1987 for conspiracy to cause explosions, including the Hyde Park bombing, and membership of the IRA. He has always protested his innocence of all the charges. Since 1994 he has been held in top security since a failed escape bid from Whitemoor prison.

His brother, Francis, said the group was attempting to ``make people aware [the appeal] is coming up. We want to get his name back in the public arena.'' He added that waiting for the appeal date had been ``a very frustrating time for Danny and his family. Hopefully we are now into the final months of this sorry saga''
