A lot of things they are putting out in this campaign bear no resemblance to what actually happened. The whole campaign has been full of disinformation which everyone in England seems to believe. The demonstration yesterday was an insult. The politicians who are involved in the campaign are in it for their own selfish interests.

However laudable and well intentioned, the scheme by American Senators and Congressmen to provide 50,000 of our young men and women with US work visas must be approached against the backdrop of our collective experience of emigration and the devastating damage it has done to the social and economic fabric of our society. To embrace a scheme of `temporary' emigration is not a course we should embark upon without giving serious and profound consideration to the political, social and economic consequences which may follow.
