One year on - no return to the status quo

"Tomorrow, Tuesday 9th, at 1pm we will be gathering at Free Derry Corner to mark the leadership shown by Martin." - Raymond McCartney MLA

A billboard will be unveiled at Free Derry Corner tomorrow to mark one year on from the resignation of Martin McGuinness as deputy First Minister and Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has encouraged people to reflect on its message, 'No Return to the Status Quo.'

Speaking ahead of the unveiling, Raymond McCartney asked people to re-read Martin McGuinness' resignation letter and remember the reasons that he brought his resignation about.

"Tomorrow, the 9th of January is one year on from Martin resigning as deputy First Minister and calling time on DUP arrogance and their inability to honour agreements made and to treat people as equals.

"None of us will ever forget that, despite his obvious failing health, his strength of character and resolve, as he laid out his rationale for doing so.

"Tonight, tomorrow, take 5 minutes and read his resignation letter.

Remembering that in May 2007, when he entered into office with Ian Paisley, in a single sentence Martin captured the essence of the agreement made with the DUP; - 'we must govern by treating every single person as equals,'" he said

The Foyle MLA also called on people to come along to the billboard unveiling at the iconic Free Derry Corner at 1pm.

"Tomorrow, Tuesday 9th, at 1pm we will be gathering at Free Derry Corner to mark the leadership shown by Martin.

"Again in a single sentence, indeed a phrase, he laid out - what is not acceptable and what will not be allowed to happen, "No Return To The Status Quo"

"Tomorrow be with us, standing together to send that message out, once more, with our collective strength and resolve," he said.
