‘The 1981 H-Blocks Hunger Strike is our 1916’ – Jennifer McCann MLA
SPEAKING at the unveiling of a new mural in Twinbrook marking the beginning of the 1981 H-Blocks Hunger Strike, Sinn Féin’s Jenifer McCann compared the courage and commitment of the ten H-Block martyrs to that of the executed leaders of 1916.

Addressing a 100-strong crowd, Jennifer spoke of her friendship with Bobby Sands and his efforts on behalf of the people of Twinbrook where he worked tirelessly for the community.
Describing Bobby as “a great role model, and great with young people,” she added:
“He always had time for everybody and brought himself to your level. He was never arrogant and treated everybody with respect. Bobby was already a leadership figure in his community. Bobby was a singer who enjoyed a social evening and was very good at bringing people together: He always had the guitar and would sing a song.”
Among the crowd were many friends and comrades of Bobby Sands, including his close friend Séanna Walsh, who chaired the event.
