Carol Nolan makes history in huge breakthrough in Offaly
A MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH was made in Offaly for Sinn Féin with the election of Carol Nolan as a TD.
The 36-year-old former teacher made history when she become the first Offaly TD to represent the party in the history of the state.
She was first elected to Offaly County Council in 2014 in the Birr electoral area.
Speaking after being elected, the new Sinn Féin TD said:
“People are fed up of the failed policies of Fine Gael and Labour, and they see Sinn Féin as the only credible alternative.
“Inequality is entrenched in our society. People have not felt the effects of the recovery and they wanted change.”
Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness said he was "overjoyed" at the Sinn Féin candidate's victory in Offaly, having previously joined the new TD on the campaign trail.
