Louise O'Reilly TD topples Fine Gael deputy leader
● Lynn Boylan MEP, Mary Lou McDonald TD and Gerry Adams welcome new TD Louise O'Reilly
NEWLY-ELECTED Sinn Féin TD Louise O'Reilly has unseated Fine Gael deputy leader and outgoing Children's Minister James O'Reilly in a dramatic election victory in Dublin Fingal.
Trade union official Louise O'Reilly was elected on Sunday afternoon after a long count at Swords, toppling the Fine Gael heavyweight in what represents a huge victory for Sinn Féin.
It is the first time that Sinn Féin has taken a seat in the constituency.
She polled 5,228 first-preference votes and was elected by the transfers of other Right2Change candidates.
Sinn Féin leadership figures Gerry Adams, Martin McGuinness and Mary Lou McDonald were all at the count on Sunday to celebrate with the new TD.
