The Irish Volunteer - Óglach na hÉireann Volume 2 - Number 33
The British government has ordered four prominent members of the Irish Volunteers to leave Ireland – Liam Mellows, Denis McCullough, Ernest Blythe and Herbert Moore Pim (‘A. Newman’). The order is in the name of the British Chief Secretary, Augustine Birrell and the paper says he now has the distinction of being the first English governor of Ireland since Oliver Cromwell who has assumed the power to transport Irishmen out of Ireland “without going through the hypocritical sham of a judicial trial”.
This issue marks a year on from the Howth gunrunning and the event is recalled by an article entitled ‘The Gunrunning at Howth by the Organiser thereof'.
