The Irish Volunteer - Óglach na hÉireann Volume 2 - Number 26

• Cartoon from 5 June 1915 issue

There are reports of growing pressure in Britain for the introduction of conscription – compulsory military service in the British Army. The paper reminds its readers that Edward Carson urged resistance to Home Rule by every means and conscription could be opposed in the same way.

On Whit Sunday there were major Volunteer parades in Limerick where 1,000 armed Volunteers took part, in Killarney and in Enniscorthy. In Killarney Eoin Mac Néill is reported presenting the Volunteers – “the hosts of Kerry’s army” - with a banner of the rising sun.
