The Irish Volunteer - Volume 1 - Number 35
This is a very significant issue as it contains the repudiation of John Redmond by the Provisional Committee of the Volunteers. They denounce his call for the Volunteers to join the British Army and, equally significantly, his consent to the proposed partition of Ireland. MJ Judge, a Volunteer officer wounded during the Howth gun-running, writes that Redmond wants to assist the British Empire by “sending our sons and brothers to be butchered on the battlefields of Europe”.
