British Army war games in County Derry 'a backward step’

THE holding of British Army ‘war games’ by 500 soldiers at a County Derry beauty spot has been criticized by Sinn Féin as an “insensitive and backward step” in an area that has suffered from British military aggression in the past “and local people do not want to be reminded of that”.

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín said:

“Given the current difficulties facing the political process, the sight of heavily-armed British soldiers on our roads around Binevenagh could be interpreted as provocative.”

The East Derry MLA added:

“The British Army are using this exercise to train for imperialist wars that have no popular support in this area.”
