Video – Pat Finucane: 25th anniversary of civil rights lawyer’s assassination
Members of the legal profession paid their respects at a well-attended vigil outside Belfast High Court
A NEW MURAL highlighting the collusion between British Government, crown forces and the loyalist assassins of human rights lawyer Pat Finucane in front of his family in Belfast on 12 February1989 was unveiled in west Belfast this week.
The mural launch, on the eve of the anniversary, is one of a series of events organised across Belfast to mark the 25th anniversary of the UDA killing.
Speaking on behalf of his family, John Finucane, Pat’s son, thanked the many people who over the 25 years since his father's death have continued to support the Finucane family in their fight for truth and justice.
On Sunday 9 February, dozens of people attended a candlelight vigil near the Finucanes’ Fortwilliam home where Pat was shot dead.
Human rights campaigner Father Raymond Murray spoke at a well-attended vigil on Wednesday 12 February outside Belfast High Court.
Many representatives of the legal profession were there to pay their respects.
Also on Wednesday, Justice Seamus Treacy delivered a lecture at Queen’s University marking Pat Finucane’s death. The event was organised by the Committee on the Administration of Justice.
