Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble meets Tony Blair in Downing Street. Trimble expresses dissatisfaction with the arrangements for arms decommissioning.
The British government is to authorise the sale of 16 Hawk fighters to Indonesia worth £160 million, despite human rights concerns.
Fianna Fáil is investigating how Charles Haughey used his allowance when leader of the party in opposition.
Friday 18 July
26-County Foreign Affairs Minister Ray Burke flies to London for a meeting with Mo Mowlam, where both governments stand over their decommissioning proposals.
Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness go with proposals to the IRA seeking a restoration of the 1994 ceasefire.
Bernadette Martin, murdered in a sectarian attack in Aghalee, County Armagh, was buried in St Colman's Cemetery in Lurgan.
Albania's election results were confirmed by an electoral commission, giving the Socialists 100 seats in the 155-seat assembly.

The Irish Republican Army announces that from 12 noon Sunday 20 July they would be calling a cessation.
Sunday 20 July
IRA cessation comes into effect.
The Afghan opposition alliance said its forces had taken Charikar, a key town 40 miles from Kabul, as well as a nearby airbase in a major rout of the Taliban militia north of Kabul.
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said Articles 2 and 3 of the 26-County Constitution will be on the table in any talks about the Six Counties.
Monday 21 July
David Trimble meets Tony Blair. UK Unionists walk out of talks. Sinn Féin goes to Stormont seeking bi-lateral talks.
Talks continue to avert a bus strike in the 26 Counties, over management's failure to consult unions on the implementation of new Imp buses on provincial routes throughout the country.
Tuesday 22 July
Mo Mowlam admits the British government will lose its vote on decomissioning at Stormont.
Rev Ian Paisley and a DUP delegation meet Tony Blair, after which they announce they will be pulling out of the present process.
26-County Foreign Minister Ray Burke briefs EU counterparts on the present state of the peace process.
