Guantanamo prisoners: Solidarity fast at Shannon Airport on Saturday
‘The fast is being held at Shannon Airport as it was a cog in the global networks of kidnapping and torture that resulted in many of the men being imprisoned in Guantamano’
A ONE-DAY solidarity fast is being organised at Shannon Airport on Saturday (7 September) in support of the prisoners being held at Guantanamo Bay.
The fast will run from sunrise (6:45am) to sunset (8pm) and members of the public are invited to join in for some or all of the fast.
The event is being organised by Shannonwatch and Galway Alliance Against War.
Organisers say:
“The fast is being held at Shannon Airport as it was a cog in the global networks of kidnapping and torture that resulted in many of the men being imprisoned in Guantamano.”
Anyone who cannot be in Shannon for the day but would like to join in the fast can go to the Shannonwatch website www.shannonwatch.org to register their participation.
On Sunday 8 September, a regular monthly vigil will also take place at Shannon from 2pm to 3pm.
This is a peaceful protest against the US military use of the airport, organisers say, and it comes at a time when an attack on Syria looks increasingly likely.
