Video – X Case: Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill welcomed
THE Irish Government's publication of the Heads of Bill for the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill which will legislate for the X Case has been welcomed by Sinn Féin.
Speaking to An Phoblacht at the Dáil, Sinn Féin spokesperson for Health and Children Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said the publication of the Heads of Bill was long overdue and something his party had long argued for.
“This needs to be considered very carefully,” he said. “We should now proceed calmly and reasonably, based on the wording as published. It will be considered in detail by the Oireachtas Health and Children Committee of which I am a member and I look forward to a constructive engagement there.”
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD said:
"Previous governments failed to face up to this issue. The production of this legislation has taken 21 years. I want to commend the government for bringing forward these proposals."
