Greyhound illegal waste storage uncovered by Environmental Protection Agency
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha: 'This highlights the disaster of waste privatisation, with waste collection and disposal in the City of Dublin now in the hands of a company with a bad environmental record.'
THE discovery by the Environmental Protection Agency of an illegal stockpile of more than 1,000 tonnes of municipal waste from Greyhound Waste highlights the disaster of the privatisation of the Dublin City Council bin collection service, Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha says.
The latest find was at a farm in Dublin 15. Greyhound Waste has been found illegally storing waste on two farms in County Kildare during the summer.
Greyhound’s slogan is “Winning the race against waste.”
Councillor Mac Donncha (pictured right) says:
“This is the company to which Dublin City Council management sold the waste collection service for Dublin City last January despite several votes by the elected councillors against such a move.
“Now 7,000 tonnes of waste collected by Greyhound has been found illegally stored on three farms during the course of 2012.
“Once again, this highlights the disaster of waste privatisation, with waste collection and disposal in the City of Dublin now in the hands of a company with a bad environmental record.
“Citizens are paying more not only for a poorer service but also for one which cannot be trusted to dispose of waste safely and legally.”
When contacted by The Irish Times for comment, Greyhound Waste had nothing to say.
