Republicans from across Clady, Ballymacnab and Granemore are making final preparations for a special event taking place in Ballymacnab Hall on Saturday 12th June to honour two local veteran republicans, Rita and Tina McNally. Rita stood as a Sinn Féin candidate for the Cusher ward in the 1989 and 1993 local elections and both women contributed greatly to the republican struggle over many years.
The dinner dance will begin with a comedy warm up from Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA, Barry McElduff. A line up of Irish dancing, music, song and poetry will then be performed by local people and a special video will be shown. Guests on the night will include local MP Conor Murphy and the guest speaker will be Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness.
Speaking about the event, local Sinn Féin Cllr Mary Doyle said, “The two local cumainn in the area have been working hard over the past few months in the planning of this event to ensure that it is both an enjoyable and fitting event for our two honorees, Rita and Tina McNally. Both ladies can trace their republicanism back to the beginning of the previous century when their parents were both involved in the IRA campaign for Irish independence.” Music will be provided by Gerry Cunningham and Pat Casey from More Power to your Elbow and a limited number of tickets are still available by contacting Liam on 00447730651791/ 07730651791.
