BELFAST
MARCH: Assemble Writers’ Square, Donegall Street, at 11:30am for speeches. Guest speaker: Bob Crow (RMT). March through Belfast City Centre.
FAMILY DIVERSITY FESTIVAL in Writers’ Square follows march from 1pm to 5pm. Live music, children’s art workshops, face painting, gourmet food, craft stalls and full bar. Admission and entertainment free.
DERRY
MARCH: Assemble 1:30pm at Custom House Street for march via Foyle Street, Carlisle Square and The Diamond to rally and entertainment at Café del Monde Square.
DUBLIN
MARCH: Assemble Parnell Square at 2pm. March followed by public meeting at Liberty Hall. Prominent speakers.ATHY, COUNTY KILDARE
FESTIVAL: Inaugural May Day Festival at Methodist Hall, Woodstock Street, from 2pm. Festival links the origins of Irish trade unionism to its historic forerunners of land-based agitators such as the ‘Ribbon Men’ and the ‘Knights of the Plough’. The festival is a multicultural event and will feature a colourful display of trade union banners and posters over the last century. The day will culminate in a music and multimedia performance by Will Kaufman, the famous Woody Guthrie biographer.Sponsored by the Athy and Kildare/Leixlip Branches of SIPTU, all events during the day are free; there is a small fee for the evening performance by Will Kaufman.
