John Finucane, son of assassinated human rights lawyer Pat Finucane, unveiled a mosaic at the Falls Road headquarters of Relatives for Justice (RFJ) on Friday 12 February 2010.
The RFJ youth group chose the 21st anniversary of the killing to launch the mosaic, the design of which is based on their interpretations of human rights and their meaning.
The RFJ youth group is made up of young people whose families have been affected by conflict-related trauma and they worked on the mosaic all though the winter months.
Speaking about the project, youth worker Roseanne Doran said:
“This is very exciting for the young people. Their families have had terrible experiences during our conflict and they are now finding a voice for their hopes for the future through art. This mosaic is a strong message to all in our community that we must build our new society based on human rights and respect for all.
"We are very proud that these young people have been involved in such an important project. That they chose to launch it on the anniversary of the killing of human rights lawyer Patrick Finucane sends a strong message that our young people will never forget and want a positive future.”
