Wicklow launches 'No' campaign

WICKLOW SAYS NO: Sinn Féin will rigorously campaign against the Lisbon Treaty

Wicklow Sinn Fein launched its No to the Lisbon Treaty campaign on 17 August. The launch took place outside the Town Hall in Bray and it was timed to coincide with an event organised by the European Commission.
Speaking after the launch Cllr. John Brady said:
“We decided to launch our ‘No’ to the Lisbon Treaty campaign to coincide with the European commissions ‘Talk to the EU’ event. The last time the Irish people spoke to the EU was when we rejected the Lisbon Treaty in June 2008. It seems that when the Irish speak on issues relating to the EU in particular treaties our voice is ignored. We have seen this with the Nice Treaty and again with the Lisbon Treaty which was rejected by 53% of the Irish people.”
“We are being told that the Lisbon treaty will make the EU more democratic. However it seems in Ireland we have a 2nd class type of democracy. We have to keep voting until the right result is obtained by the Greens and Fianna Fáil and their right-wing friends in Europe.”
“Wicklow Sinn Féin will rigorously campaign against the Lisbon Treaty. We will be bombarded with all sorts of scare-mongering by the conservative right-wing political parties up to polling day which is on 2 October. Don’t be fooled by the people who got this country into the mess it is in.”
