Hospital security ballot for industrial action

SECURITY staff at three hospitals in Limerick have balloted in favour of industrial action following claims that their employer cut hours for workers who are union members.
The workers are employed by Keg Security who are contracted by the Health Service Executive. Twelve of the 38 workers who are members of SIPTU have said the company has made a “unilateral change to workers’ terms of employments without agreement or consultation”.
According to workers, this is the latest in a series of disputes they have had with Keg Security, some of which are being looked into by the National Employment Rights Agency.

Union urges TSB customers not to abuse staff

THE Mandate trade union has asked the public not to take out their anger for interest rates hikes on counter staff at Permanent TSB.
Mandate has been running a campaign over the past year called Respect Retail Workers. Part of the campaign is to emphasise that ordinary staff members are not responsible for a lot of issues customers and members of the public have with company policy.
“Ordinary Permanent TSB staff had absolutely no influence on the decision to raise interest rates and the public need to make this connection,” the union said this week.
