UNWAVERING: Barney Dempsey and Mary Samuels are honoured for their unstinting and lifelong support of the Republican Movement

A large crowd attended Athlone Sinn Féin’s first annual dinner dance at The Shamrock Lodge Country House Hotel, last Thursday 23 April.
The huge crowd was in attendance to welcome Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams and EU candidate for the North and West constituency Councillor Pádraig Mac Lochlainn.
Presentations were made to two local republicans, Mary Samuels and Barney Dempsey to honour their unstinting and lifelong support of the Republican Movement spanning nearly nine decades each.
Sinn Féin Athlone Councillor Paul Hogan welcomed everybody especially the Samuels and Dempsey families to ‘this milestone event in the social calendar’. He thanked all the local businesses that sponsored spot prizes for the raffle and who purchased advertisements in the brochure.
