CLEANING UP: Sinn Féin’s Rachel McCarthy

The Commdt. Charlie Hurley Cumann, Sinn Féin organised a clean-up of the Bandon River Walkway on Friday night 24 July. A group of eight people volunteered to assist in the clean-up.
The initiative was a follow up to a similar action last year when the Bandon Sinn Féin Cumann organised to do a clean-up the same area. At the time they collected about forty refuse bags of beer cans and bottles. This issue was then highlighted on the local radio and also with An Garda Siochana.
The cumann has since donated €400 to the local council to put in place four bins along the walkway. Each of these bins has a plaque on it saying that they were sponsored by Bandon Sinn Féin. Bandon Town Council Candidate Rachel McCarthy said that she is glad to report that there was only a small amount of rubbish collected on Friday night in comparison to what had been collected last year and that it was the cumann’s every intention to continue to work to keep it litter free.
