Howl at the moon - A Halloween Night at the Races

HALLOWEEN NIGHT will see a big race night in Dundalk Stadium to raise funds for next year’s national elections for the European Parliament and local elections in the 26 Counties.
The event (on Friday 31 October for those of you who haven’t got your Republican Diary to hand) is one of a number of fund-raising events being organised by the Sinn Féin Finance Department.
Margaret Adams, one of the party’s national treasurers, says:
“It’ll be a great night out. There’s a big interest in it throughout the country.
“There will be six dogs per race and 12 races in all. The speed that those dogs run at is breath-taking – about 500 metres in 30 seconds, so it’s non-stop action.”
Each race is sponsored and the Finance Department has secured sponsorship from a range of groups, including the Wolfe Tone Society in London and Cairde na hÉireann in Scotland.
The owner of the winning dogs gets a money prize and is presented with a plaque.  While the event is designed to raise funds, Margaret stresses that it’s also about having a good night out:
“We want people to enjoy themselves during the evening. There’s a restaurant in the stadium and people can watch the race from the gallery. Then there’s a disco afterwards.”
The entry fee is €10 which includes admission to the track and a race card.
