Trade unionist forced out of his home

A TRADE UNIONIST who was involved in organising the recent trades union demonstration in support of Catholic parishioners of Our Lady's church in Harryville has had to leave his home because of loyalist intimidation.

Sectarian graffiti was painted onto the windows of his house in East Belfast. He reported this to the RUC who advised him to stay away from his home for a while and that they would protect the house, ``I went to Dublin'', said the man, `` and when I returned I was told the windows had been broken. And now my landlady has told me she doesn't want me in the house''.

Since the protest at Harryville on 15 March the trades union member has twice been the target of sectarian intimidation and told AP/RN that he now has, ``no option but to move to a safe area of the city. I'm shocked that within days of going to Harryville to support the Catholics there I am now being targeted by sectarian thugs''.
