Basque Youth Delegation to Tour Ireland

A delegation of Basque youth will be touring Ireland next week. The group, hosted by Ógra Shinn Féin will be engaged in a number of public meetings, and will also use the mobilisation to learn of the Peace Process in Ireland.
The Basque youth delegation will be comprised of experienced activists who are involved in a broad area of work including, international (kamaradak), publicity (gazte sarea and xirika), the student movement (ikasle abertzaleak), and the creation of youth houses.
The public talks will touch on the current political situation in the Basque Country and how despite constant state repression the youth of Euskal Herria continue to grow in strength and confidence.
Speaking of the upcoming delegation, Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser, Barry McColgan said:
“The Basque struggle is our struggle, we support the rights of the Basque people to national self determination and delegations like this are important to keep the Irish people informed of developments in the Basque country.”
“The current repression and human rights abuses against the Basque youth are appalling and it is an inspiration that despite this torture they continue to mobilise confidently towards their objectives.”
“The Basque youth are one of the most inspiring and innovative movements globally, we can learn many lessons from their vast experience and I would encourage everyone to attend the public talks.”
